Little Shits

leave a comment »

I spoke to a friend who teaches 7th and 8th grade science. She described her students as “half of them are a bunch of little shits.” She has stopped seeing potential and I wonder if she will eventually say “75% of them are little shits” or “all of them are just a bunch of little shits.”

It is time to find a new job if you hate your coworkers, bosses, clients and anyone else you are hired to serve.

The Cut

leave a comment »

It’s clear I’ve made very quick and pronounced progress in the past 9 months of being in New York. I did this by having high standards for myself. I’ve started to push these standards on my team so the next 9 months will be beneficial to everyone I work with as well as myself.

• Positive energy
• Stylish product
• Has remarkable taste
• Desire to grow
• Always making improvements
• Excited to work
• Team attitude
• Maintains attention to detail
• Punctual
• Contributes great ideas

My tolerance for poor performers has dwindled to zero. Having a few of these attributes will get you in the door, having all of them will ensure you’re here for the long haul.

Taste & Style

leave a comment »

I used to think you could learn taste & style. But now I’m quickly realizing you either have it or you don’t. I’m either getting picky, snooty, or I am just moving ahead of a peer group.

How do you tell people they lack style and taste when it is a critical part of their jobs? How do you tell them without hurting their feelings?

Thank God for MeMe Roth

leave a comment »

I started to notice MeMe Roth on different news segments fairly frequently lately. She founded National Action Against Obesity. The mission is simple:

National Action Against Obesity is a non-partisan, all-volunteer advocacy group dedicated to reversing the obesity crisis by eliminating disease- and obesity-accelerators from the food supply; barring junk food from child care centers, preschools, and schools; and eradicating Secondhand Obesity™ (obesity handed down from one generation to the next, as well as from citizen to citizen); while encouraging exercise across all ages. Success relies upon wholly re-imagining what the U.S. population considers “normal” food consumption and “normal” exercise. When the majority is overweight, America cannot be normal.

MeMe is a breath of fresh air. She makes it clear: childhood obesity is child abuse. The pro-fat movement is madness. She is up front and will tell you that the best way to help is to constantly call people out on their b.s.. I’ve watched several clips of her and I absolutely adore the wit she employs when delivering her message and reeducating a nation.

I got lazy and fell out of shape. I didn’t take care of myself for a while and now I am repairing the damage I created. The repairs are work but it’s work I enjoy doing. As a former fatty- I think it is great that she is being as aggressive as she is. I’ve decided to join the movement. I want a fit future for myself and for the people on our planet. People around me know that I like to pick good fights so expect to see me pick this fight more and more.

Here is her blog. And her Twitter. And here is an enjoyable video.

Thanks, again, MeMe!

New Work

leave a comment »

I’m finishing my new book. Most photographers use a leather portfolio with their names embossed but that seems boring to me- it doesn’t give people the opportunity to judge the book by its cover when it look like every other photographers presentation. I’m moving toward this as the new cover:

MATTIA BONETTI @ Paul Kasmin Gallery

leave a comment »

Last night I skipped in to the Paul Kasmin Gallery where I found Mattia Bonetti’s work. This was, by far, my favorite work at all the receptions I attended yesterday. I would love to have his work spread throughout my home. Here are a few samples:. (not all shown at the gallery)
